Hello from my trip to Croatia where I’ve been told that getting hit with pigeon poop means good luck. Not so sure about that but might as well turn into a DERM TEACHING OPPORTUNITY… 1) Long sleeves meant most of the warm poop hit fabric, not skin – yeah! 2) Although pigeon poop carries fungal spores that cause histoplasmosis, cryptococcosis, and the bacteria causing psittacosis, you’d have to inhale a lot of them so one targeted plop o’ poop is not a health risk 3) Carry wet wipes or, if you carry liquid antiseptic, have tissues bc the wiping action is important to remove infectious debris 4) Always carry extra sunscreen to apply to the newly uncovered skin so removing the pooped shirt won’t be a tragedy. I had Colorescience Sunforgettable powder so I could apply to my arms and shoulders without worrying about my hands being clean 5) Sun protection doesn’t have to be expensive – this linen shirt from Uniqlo USA provided lightweight sun (and pigeon poop) protection for under $15!
